The TomoTherapy HI-ART is a cutting edge technology used to deliver image based IMRT treatments (IGRT/IMRT). The TomoTherapy system arrives from the factory having been characterized with beam data collected in one of TomoTherapy’s assembly bunkers. During transit and reassembly in the customer's vault, the linear accelerator could shift and the properties may change. As a result, TomoTherapy sends a staff member of their physics team to collect beam data.
The commissioning process involves measurement and verification of the data collected at the factory as well as the commissioning of the megavolt CT imaging portion of the treatment system and the integration of the two systems.
Services offered by Physics and Computer Planning, Inc. (P&CP) include:
shielding and design assistance of treatment vaults
TomoTherapy experienced physicists to be present during the installation
independent verification of the commissioning and/or acceptance testing
P&CP can also provide training and establishment of quality assurance protocols, treatment planning development and IMRT verification, as required by CPT procedural codes.
P&CP will work with your staff physicist to commission and implement this technology in a timely manner; this allows the institution to utilize the technology in a positive time frame that would otherwise be difficult for a site physicist to complete, without additional assistance.
This is expensive technology and delays as short as one week in its commissioning can have a significant impact on revenues for an established practice.
P&CP offers the client a monthly calibration and quality assurance service to assist the client's staff physicists with the additional clinical duties due to the increased workload that may be encountered by the installation of a TomoTherapy system.
Inherent in the technology, each patient’s treatment plan and QA are much more labor intensive than other procedures common in the typical radiation therapy clinic. Due to our extensive clinical experience, P&CP is able to provide continuing physics support as a service to those facilities who desire to provide this advanced technique without adding additional staff.
